That time I thought I was Betsy Ross

Image
They say catchy titles is one of the most important parts of blogging, so even though I do not even begin to pretend that my little large sewing project is anywhere near the same ballpark as Betsy Ross's accomplishment, it is still pretty darn good for this non-sewer. Catchy title? or no? Did you want to find out what in the heck I did to think I might be Betsy Ross? Do you know who Betsy Ross is? Colorado Transplant Friend has two of the most adorable kiddos ever, Little Boy and Miller Baby. Oh and those cute Bronco outfits, yeah I picked those out. Little Boy and Miller Baby Colorado Transplant Friend wanted to make them quiet books for quite a while. She decided that she just didn't have time to spend on sewing so I got this great idea that I would make quiet books  for Christmas . Luckily, I started in plenty of time because even though I have a sewing machine, I'm a sewing disaster and this project is way out of my league. I figure they are kids, they won...

BCF: Pillars of the Earth

[Linking up with Heather at Undercover Blonde ] 41 hours......that is how long this book is on cd. I knocked er out on the Really Big Road Trip. It was recommended to me by a co-worker and I thought it would be perfect for this insanely large road trip that I was about to embark on. I don't know if I'm proud of this fact or dismayed that I drove at least 41 hours by myself. ouch. And since I just got home from said 41+ hours, this is my dazed and confused book report. Its good. Its about knights and earls and monks. Its 41 hours if you do the cd version which probably translates into alot of pages. I don't think I'll read it again, but I will read this author again. Its got fighting, losses, triamphs and 32 cds. oh and did I mention It's 41 hours.

FBC: Whiteout

Image
[Linking up with Heather at Undercover Blonde ] The author Ken Follett was recommended to me by a co-worker, of course when I got to the library I couldn't remember the titles that she had recommended so I just picked one. And I picked a good one! Whiteout by Ken Follett is a suspense thriller, but not with a usual story line. Its a looping story of betrayal, threat against human kind and a race against time. A medical firm that does research on deadly virus' as well as vaccines to protect against those virus' is broken into and threatened to be released into the world, threatening the existence of human kind. I know I'll be reading more by Ken Follett!

#30.6: The Icecutter's Daughter

Image
[Linking up with Heather at Undercover Blonde ]   Your typical tomboy gets the hot guy story, old school like 1800s old school is The Icecutter's Daughter by Tracie Peterson. Its an easy read and not too corny. Merrill is a girl that lives in a houseful of boys after her mother passed away. She is quite the hand with the teams of horses that her family uses to cut ice blocks each winter in a small Minnesota town. She is also a quite accomplished painter that lands her an additional job in town once the dashing young Rurik arrives in town to help his uncle with his carpentry business. Of course there is wrench thrown into the loop making somewhat of a love triangle....pick up a copy at your library to find out who the third is! And with this book, I crossed off #30 on my Dirty 30 list (this is the progress that I made in my first 3 months)!

#30.5: Uncle Al Capone

Image
If you aren't new to this blog you will remember my trip out to San Francisco and to Alcatraz, if you are new... click here to read more about my trip to Alcatraz or here to read more about all my travelin' adventures. My trip had a little surprise waiting for us at the gift shop at the end of our tour.....Diedre Marie Capone, a great niece of Al Capone was there, personally signing her book titled Uncle Al Capone. This almost gypsy soul came home with a new book, signed by a Capone and at just the right time as I had finished 1.5 of my 2 book flight allotment that I had checked out from the library before I left Wyoming. Uncle Al Capone was a very interesting book, it provides the reader with an insiders view of what Al Capone might have really been like....from a home and family perspective. The book doesn't go into great detail of what he was like had you had a "business" relationship with him, but there are plenty of other books that do. One inte...

#30.4: Butch Cassidy - beyond the grave

Image
[Linking up with Heather over at Undercover Blonde ] A biography, by W.C. Jameson, provides a well researched account of Butch Cassidy's life as an American Outlaw. I chose this book because Butch Cassidy spent some time in Rock Springs and even got his name while he was here. His real name is Robert LeRoy Parker. I think Butch Cassidy is better suited for the outlaw life. Even though he was an outlaw, he showed much compassion for others and wasn't violent by nature. Follow Cassidy through an account of his life as Robert Parker, his life as outlaw Butch Cassidy and a variety of other alias and his controversial death. Did he really die in South America? Did he escape back to the United States.....read on to find out more information and then you can make up your own mind.

#30.3: the ninth step

Image
[Linking up with Heather over at the Undercover Blonde ] Oh I love me a good murder mystery! I haven't been the the library in quite some time....yeah I still have a library card and I pickup real books, I don't have one of those e-reader things. Anyway, I always cruise the "new releases" section and I pick books like I pick wine. A catchy title and cover and .......bam, you got me! Since I was getting ready to fly to CA, I stopped to get some books before I left. This one I finished on the first day.....before I made it to my final destination. Its an easy read and highly recommended if you are into murder mystery books. Let's just say the ending isn't what you expect....or at least I sure didn't.  Trying not to do a spoiler, I'll give you a few details. The Ninth Step by Grant Jerkins is a story of one woman's quest to right her wrongs after admitting she is an alcoholic and joining a 12 Step Program. As she works her way through...

#30.2: How to be a Hepburn in a Hilton world

Image
The art of living with style, class and grace. I feel like if you truly have Hepburn tendencies this book is pretty common sense however, its always a good reminder of how we should be acting. Especially in a world that is very much Hilton all around us, its easy to forget Hepburn and fall into line with the Hilton world. A few of my favorite quotes and ideas from the book to get you hooked.... Don't rely on somone else for your happiness and self-worth. Only you can be responsible for that. I often struggle with this. Every year or so I feel the tugging to shake everything up, new job, new location, new priorities etc. The next time we're confronted with a sticky situation, we need to ask ourselves - is this really what I want to be remembered for? Is this what I want my kids to remember me for? My parents? My grandchildren? With the internet and accessibility of information, we need to be even more conscious of this. Mistakes find it much easier to follow us f...

#30.1: Ride, Cowboy, Ride - 8 Seconds Ain't That Long

Image
Anyone who says they have only one life to live must not know how to read a book.  ~Author Unknown Ride, Cowboy, Ride is Baxter Black's newest book and a Christmas gift from Sister. Now look at him, of course he is an excellent writer, poet and cowboy humorist.....you can tell by the wicked awesome mustache! If you have ever read a Baxter Black book, this one will not disappoint. If you haven't read any of Black's work....get your rear on Amazon.com! This book gives us the lives of a rodeo cowboy, his rodeo cowboy/wannabe cowboy poet and lady bronc rider accused of trafficking endangered species bird feathers. Cooney Bedlam is infatuated with Pica, but can't seem to not make a complete fool of himself in front of her. When she is accused of trafficking bird feathers. Cooney and traveling partner Straight Line set out to save her reputation, prove Pica's innocence, win the National Finals Rodeo and of course......get the girl. A couple of my favorite li...
