fried chicken, fried gator and grits

You know I'm headed south on this one. Even though this has been over a year ago, I enjoyed this trip so much that I'd be ashamed if I didn't share this destination with you.

Sister Sara earner her ARA accreditation for her general appraiser license, which is a really big deal! I mean she got to go all the way to Savannah, Georgia to accept her award!

Congratulations Sister Sara!
Our hotel was on the east side of the Savannah River, just across from historic River Street. We would take the ferry across the river each day to see and learn about Savannah.

Dinner with General Oglethorpe, founder of Savannah

I was able to attend some of the meeting activities with Sara, but I also spent some time on my own while she went to continuing education sessions. I always scoped out the best things and then planned them with her. Hands down our favorite thing was the food, some of the best food that I've ever had. I loved going to breakfast in the little cafes, but none of the meals disappointed. Some of our recommendations? The Pirates House, Collins Quarter, Goose Feather Cafe, just to name a few.

Savannah is packed full of history and they've done a great job of preserving it for generations that follow to learn and and enjoy. We did the Historic Walking Tour with Mike Mack of Noble Jones Tours. While I'm not a huge history buff in I can spout of facts and timelines. I love listening to others tell the stories of days gone by and see the actual places they are talking about. I love learning, then going home to delve deeper into the information. I can't recommend this tour highly enough, but go early, it can get hot in Savannah!

The other museum that I truly enjoyed was the Prohibition Museum. I originally walked through the doors just to kill and hour or so until Sara got out of her meetings, but it was awesome! Sure, we've all heard of Prohibition, but how and why it really came about, the unintended consequences, absolutely fascinating!

What would be a work trip without tacking on a few extra days to really see the sights? Our cousin lives in South Carolina, which happened to only be a couple hours away. She drove down and met us at Tybee Island for the day.
