2017: falling in love with life

Almost Gypsy Soul was born out of a "Dirty 30" list and each year since I've had the equivalent of New Years Resolutions or goals.... 2014 , 2015 , 2016 . I've tried to keep you up to date on my progress through this blog and through that these have come to feel like a checklist, not really sure that I'm reaping what I'm trying to sow here, so to speak. This year I want less of a list to methodically and thoughtlessly cross items off of and instead, something more, something with deeper meaning something empowering, something that pushes me to be better, pushes me forward, productive member of society, comfortable in my own skin, have a direction ya know that kind of thing. And while I'm not sure I'll be able to articulate it through my words, I hope you'll bear with me anyway while I navigate 17 ways to fall in love with your life in 2017 . I'm really good at math and figured out that I'll have to examine more than one of these per ...

Checking in again, halfway there on those 2016 goals. If you missed the story behind those goals, click here and here and here and here when I checked in at the end of each quarter. 1. GET A HOBBY - Let's be honest, I can't really afford many more hobbies. The upside of having a lot of hobbies, there is always room to devote more time and attention to said hobbies (especially since I have several "new" hobbies, less than 3 years old. In 2016 I will: take 3 mountain bike trips Memorial Day mountain biking in Fruita with Tyler, Jennie, Will and Melody Labor Day weekend at WYDAHO Mountain Bike Festival at Grand Targhee Fall mountain biking in Fruita with Tyler, Jennie, Dane, Kelley, Schwan, Stevie Jo, Brent, Jim and Cari  take 2 golf trips Birthday Golf with the Retired Guy at Rolling Green Country Club 3rd Annual Shank-o-poto-mus at Fossil Island  2. in case no one has told you today

That one person that just shocks the shit out of you. Someone who it never crossed your mind that they gave a crap about you or what you are doing in life. An acquaintance that goes above and beyond and makes you realize there is hope for humanity. and.it.made.my.day. I think we all struggle with our own self worth at times and I'm no different. I struggle because my life looks nothing like I envisioned . (but what does an 18 year old kid who thinks they are ready to take on the world really know anyway) Just as this angel told me on a day that I needed to hear it most, I will tell you.....you make a difference, you are here for a reason, you are loved,  you are enough .....maybe not to everybody, but to someone you are inspiring and you can make your dreams come true. In a world where hatred and selfishness is running rampant, its a world that strives to tear others down to lift ourselves up a little higher on the pedestal. That is not where strength comes from, strengt...

SMBA: trail days 2016

Image
One of my goals for 2016 was to get more involved in my community. A new friend from spin class had been bugging me about coming to the mountain bike club meetings for a while and I finally caved. And I'm glad that I did. The Sweetwater Mountain Bike Association (SMBA) is a great bunch of guys and a hidden gem of a trail system in Green River, WY. Wilkins Peak was even voted on the 2016 Best Mountain Bike Trails by Singletracks.com. Trail maintenance on Brent and Mike's Each year the club puts on a Trail Days to introduce people to the Wilkins Peak Trail System and mountain biking. The club, along with sponsors, offers a free pancake breakfast, guided rides on the trail system, night ride and raffles/giveaways. This year we were even able to raffle off a brand new Trek mountain bike with the support of Bike & Trike in Rock Springs. The event was attended by approximately 100 people, the most we've ever had. Trek bike raffle winner Logan (L) with President ...

in 2016

Well I started thinking about this blog a long time ago as in before I finished by 2015 goal list . But to be honest I've had a really difficult time coming up with what exactly it is that I want to accomplish in 2016, not because I feel like I've already done enough, but I'm not really sure what holds the meaning of life in it like I feel like I need to focus on this year. So, one day I woke up...somewhere after January 1 when all of our goals should be known and saw this list on another blog that I subscribe to, Fat Mum Slim . And while I don't gather that she was the author either, I knew these 16 things were what I want to accomplish in the year 2016. While its a "generic" list, its meaning will be a little different for all who set out to accomplish 16 in 2016. 1. GET A HOBBY - Let's be honest, I can't really afford many more hobbies. The upside of having alot of hobbies, there is always room to devote more time and attention to said hobb...
