[Soul Food Friday] #21.6 Letters to a Soldier: It's a fact, JACK!

Image
Grab the button (at the bottom of my page), link up and share what feeds your soul! This week so many things feed my soul. The fact that we live in a free country, thanks to so many who have sacrificed so much. Friends that really come through. Friends of friends that come through. Thankfulness, gratefulness, honesty, creativity, love, kiddos and Duck Dynasty! We are thankful for the many, many soldiers past, present and future that selflessly serve our great country and protect our freedoms, and that's a fact, JACK! After the initial Duck Dynasty edition of Letters to a Solider , I received a request for DD care packages for a whole unit that had been deployed. I was a little nervous about "adopting" a whole unit, even if is only for one project, so I "enlisted" a bunch of friends to help me. I knew I had good friends, but this Operation Duck Dynasty proved to me that not only do I have good great friends, but the friends of my friends are great! ...

Soul Food Friday [September 2013] 3 year anniversary

Image
Yes, you read that correctly....the single girl has a 3 year anniversary. Where's my cake? And this anniversary feeds my soul. Grab the button (its at the bottom of my page), link-up and let us know what feeds your soul. Tomorrow, September 28, marks the 3 years since I made the decision to become a Be The Match registry member. The registry is a connection resource to match donors with people with life-threatening blood cancers like leukemia and lymphoma. Assistant Pack Leader beat the hell out of Hodgkin's Lymphoma, a blood cancer and has been clear for just over 3 years now. While she was fighting, it made me realize how precious life is and how lucky I am to be in a position to help others. When they started talking bone marrow transplants for her, I knew I'd be the first to sign up to be tested for a match. The Drs. ended up using a procedure that utilized her own marrow, but I decided that I would sign up for the National Registry , you just never know when s...

Soul Food Friday Country God

Grab the button, link up and share what feeds your soul! In a world that is so fast paced, running from activity to activity. Someone always needing something from us. Cell phone ringing and buzzing with text messages. TVs blaring in the background. Doing less with more. Eating dinner on the go or not eating dinner at all. Sometimes all I need is 2 seconds to pause, to breathe, to look around at God's creation and know.....simplicity feeds my soul. I don't always feel like I have enough of it and I have to remind myself to keep it simple often, its the simple things in life that really mean the most. The Cowboy's Prayer Oh Lord, I've never lived where churches grow.             I loved creation better as it stood         That day You finished it so long ago             And looked upon Your work and called it good.  ...

Soul food friday [June 2013]

Image
It's something you always knew, just sometimes life gets in the way and it gets pushed to the back of your mind. Friends are my soul food! Unfortunately, last week I was reminded to NOT let life push this little piece of fact to the back of my mind, to love my friends, to let my friends know that I love them, to take a little extra time to send that email or text or pick up the phone and make the call, to spend more than is in the travel budget, to take 10 days 2 1/2 weeks off to drive what I'm going to refer to as the Giant Friend Loop Road Trip (GRLRT) instead of flying in/out in 3 days time, to buy the random gift you know they will love.   As I looked around the room, which was full, at the wake I realized how many lives this young man had touched so deeply in just 27 short years. The next day the sanctuary, the hall and foyer were filled with people wanting to pay their last respects to their friend. I am reminded to strive to be like Joe Don, to strive to be a...
